2020

The Spark of an Idea

Dan, the founder of Green Route, moved from Vancouver to Winnipeg in late 2019. Not knowing the local routes or cyclists, he found himself with no one to ride with and no way to access information about road cycling in Winnipeg. After looking at leaderboards on Strava, he followed a few cyclists and managed to convince a couple of them to ride with him.

2021

Building the Foundation

After connecting with more cyclists in Winnipeg, Dan began riding with a couple of faster individuals who were committed to riding multiple times per week. Weekly rides quickly became the norm, and the challenge of holding wheels and taking hard pulls began. The trio of cyclists started to gain recognition from other riders in Winnipeg on Strava.

2022

Go Live

2022 was Green Route's breakout year, featuring weekly group rides that attracted dozens of cyclists throughout the season. The Headingley out-and-back from Assiniboine Park became the official route for Green Route. We also secured our first few partners and collaborated with the talented designer Max Young from Vancouver, BC, to create our first-ever club jersey and bib shorts.

2023

Bringing the Community Together

Building on the success of 2022, Green Route became an affiliated club of the Manitoba Cycling Association (MCA), ensuring that its members have access to the support and resources provided by the MCA. In February 2023, Green Route hosted the province's first-ever esports race at Kilter Brewing. Additionally, we organized the Hare & The Hound race in May and the 2023 Road Provincial Championships. These events not only brought the community together but also provided a platform for Green Route's club members to compete at a city-wide level.

2024-Present

Continuous Innovation

As we progress through 2024, we’re not slowing down. Green Route has partnered with a new apparel collaborator and the talented Vancouver-based designer, Zack Shoom, to bring the best-looking jerseys, bib shorts, and performance apparel to Winnipeg. We successfully hosted the May Hare & the Hound race, the first-ever Manitoba Terry Fox Ride of Hope—where we exceeded our fundraising goal—and achieved record participation at the 2024 Provincial Road Championships in August. Green Route plans to continue connecting the Manitoba cycling community with top partners and sponsors, as well as exciting events that foster camaraderie and friendly competition.
